ABOUT 100 KM FOR HER
On September 19, Mandy will walk 100KM from Chilliwack to Vancouver to raise funds and awareness in support of women experiencing domestic and intimate partner violence. She is taking on this incredible challenge in support of SARA for Women and The Kaur Movement, with a simple message: no woman should have to walk alone.
Mandy will complete the 100KM journey on September 19, followed by THE FINAL STEPS in Vancouver on September 20, when she is inviting the community to join her and take the final steps together.
WHY MANDY IS SUPPORTING SARA
Almost four years after leaving an abusive relationship, Mandy is still rebuilding, still healing and still learning what it means to have a life that belongs to her.
She knows she did not get there alone.
When Mandy finally said, “I'm done,” her brother heard her. He knew fear could keep her stuck trying to make the perfect plan, so he got the U-Haul and said, “Let's go.” Her family showed up, and they have continued to show up as she has put her life back together.
Mandy had people beside her. And yet, four years later, she is still rebuilding.
That left her asking: If this is still this hard when I had people beside me, what are we asking of the woman trying to do it without enough support?
Long before a woman becomes a headline, organizations like SARA for Women are already doing the work most of us never see. They are there when women reach out and continue supporting them as they rebuild their lives.
Mandy believes this cannot be something we leave at the doorstep of organizations and expect them to carry for all of us. They need resources, and they need a larger community willing to stand behind the work they are doing.
That is where 100KM FOR HER comes from.
THE GOAL
WHAT IF 110,000 PEOPLE GAVE JUST 50 CENTS?
Around the time this idea was taking shape, Mandy kept hearing the number 55,000.
She was thinking about South Asian artists filling stadiums and making history, and wondered: What if 55,000 people gave $1?
Then there were two sold out nights.
110,000 people.
And Mandy thought: What if 110,000 people gave just 50 cents?
That would still be $55,000.
What is 50 cents to one person? Almost nothing.
But collectively, look at what it becomes.
That is what 100KM FOR HER is really about. Not asking a handful of people to carry something enormous, but asking enough of us to carry a tiny piece of it together.
Maybe your part is 50 cents. Maybe it is $1. Maybe it is more. Maybe your part is sharing this campaign with ten people and asking them to share it with ten more.
The amount isn't really the point. The point is whether enough of us are willing to do something.

After walking 100KM from Chilliwack to Vancouver, Mandy is inviting the community to join her for THE FINAL STEPS.
She does not want those final steps to belong to her alone. She wants them to belong to all of us.
